Peter F. Volanakis | President and Chief Operating Officer

Peter F. Volanakis

Peter F. Volanakis joined Corning in 1982 as a market development specialist in Optical Products. He was named product manager for Technical Ceramics in 1985, and subsequently served in various commercial positions in Environmental Products.

In 1991, Volanakis became director of Corporate Marketing.

He returned to the Environmental Products Division in 1992 as general manager, Europe in Wiesbaden, Germany. In 1995, he was named executive vice president, Siecor Corporation (a Siemens-Corning Equity Venture) in Hickory, N.C., and in October 1997 returned to Corning as senior vice president, Advanced Display Products (LCDs). He was appointed executive vice president of the Display sector and Life Sciences division in January 1999.

In January 2001, he became president, Corning Technologies, with responsibility for the company’s Information Display and Advanced Materials groups, as well as international operations and central engineering. In April 2005, Volanakis became chief operating officer with responsibilities for all of Corning’s business operations. In April 2007, he added the title of president.

Volanakis was elected to the board of directors of Corning in December 2000. He is also on the board of directors of Dow Corning and The Vanguard Group; the board of trustees of the Corning Incorporated Foundation and Corning Museum of Glass; and the board of overseers of the Amos Tuck School of Business Administration at Dartmouth College.

Volanakis holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from Dartmouth College and a master’s degree from the Tuck School at Dartmouth College.
