Taiwan event demonstrates community commitment
October 2008
Inside Tainan’s Ling-He Elementary School, Corning leaders and school children gathered to complete a special mission: design, paint, and prepare giant kites. However, this was more than just an opportunity to fly beautifully decorated kites. The project demonstrated the commitment of Corning Display Technologies Taiwan (CDTT) to improving the quality of life for children who live in the surrounding rural communities.
The workshop was part of an extended team-building activity for approximately 45 Corning management leaders from around the world. The occasion marked the first time that the school has been involved in a collaboration such as this one with a foreign company.
In addition to this event, CDTT has previously made financial contributions to schools in rural areas of Tainan. In 2007, more than 500 CDTT plant employees in Tainan and Taipei donated funds for tuition fees and after-school education programs, which Corning matched. The NT $1 million (about $31,000 USD) donation helped improve the educational opportunities for more than 300 local children.
This past April, CDTT donated NT $100,000 to Ling-He Elementary School for the purchase of library books and equipment.
