Corning employees give back to community in Day of Caring Event

June 2009
More than 100 Corning Incorporated employees — from members of senior management to interns — recently volunteered for the “United Way Day of Caring” sponsored by the United Way of the Southern Tier. Volunteers helped United Way agencies with projects too daunting for normal day-to-day operations. Employees from eight different Corning organizations helped with various projects, including cleaning a women’s shelter, painting a children’s playroom, and pulling weeds in public parks.

In addition to time, Corning offers the United Way monetary donations. Last year Corning employees donated nearly $1.7 million to United Way, an 8 percent increase over 2007’s contributions. Corning's donation is the largest single contribution to the community-wide campaign, which last year raised $4.4 million.
